MetaMask Plans Stablecoin mUSD

Stablecoin Launch Details: On August 21, 2025, MetaMask announced MetaMask USD ($mUSD), a stablecoin for its self-custodial wallet, set to launch later in 2025 on Ethereum and Linea. Issued by Stripe’s Bridge and minted through M0’s decentralized infrastructure, $mUSD will be backed 1:1 by U.S. cash and short-duration Treasuries. Ajay Mittal, MetaMask’s Director of Product, noted it will integrate with Linea’s DeFi stack, including lending and exchanges. Stablecoins currently process nearly $1 trillion in monthly on-chain volume, highlighting the market $mUSD will enter. Planned Features: Building on its DeFi integration, $mUSD will enable users to on-ramp, hold, swap, transfer, and bridge assets within MetaMask’s wallet. By late 2025, it will support real-world spending at millions of Mastercard merchants via MetaMask Card. The stablecoin will leverage M0’s network for cross-chain composability and real-time transparency, connecting to custodial platforms and Linea’s decentralized exchanges. These features aim to streamline web3 transactions, aligning with MetaMask’s vision for seamless user experiences.
