Pump.fun's $600M Token Sale Nears Amid Controversy

Token Sale Details: Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin platform launched in January 2024, is set to begin its public token sale on July 12, 2025, with the goal of raising $600 million. The sale will run until July 15 and be available on major exchanges such as Bybit, Kraken, Bitget, Gate.io, KuCoin, and MEXC, though US and UK residents are barred from participating. Pre-market trading on Bybit has already valued it at $5.1 billion FDV, a 27.5% premium over the $4 billion ICO FDV, while Hyperliquid launched a PUMP-USD perpetual pair on July 9, 2025, offering up to 3x leverage.

Token Supply Breakdown: The sale involves 150 billion PUMP tokens priced at $0.004 each, comprising 15% of the total 1 trillion supply. Key allocations include 33% for the ICO (with 18% already sold privately), 24% for the community, 20% for the team, 13% for investors, and 2.4% for an ecosystem fund. Since its launch, Pump.fun has amassed over $700 million in revenue from fees. Additionally, Binance Futures is scheduled to launch a PUMP perpetual contract on July 10, 2025, at 07:30 UTC. Currently, PUMP trades at $0.0056 on Hyperliquid, a 40% premium over ICO, with $30 million volume and $17 million open interest in the first 24 hours.

Reactions and Trading: Co-founder Alon previously stated on March 31, 2024: "The only upside to presales are that they allow you to pocket raised $$$... Conclusion: every pre sale is a scam." On March 29, 2025, he added: "exchange listings are dead no transparency around listing leads to foul play and shitty coin selection." These comments have fueled accusations of hypocrisy, as Pump.fun proceeds with a presale and exchange partnerships.
