Swift & Consensys Build Blockchain Prototype

🔗 Swift's Blockchain Payment System
Blockchain Ledger Announced: Swift announced integrating a blockchain-based shared ledger for secure, real-time, 24/7 cross-border payments, using a prototype developed with Consensys. The system leverages smart contracts to record, sequence, and validate transactions, aiming to streamline global payments. It builds on Swift’s prior blockchain experiments, set to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Institutional Collaboration: Over 30 financial institutions, including Banco Santander, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, and HSBC, will provide feedback and support implementation. Swift, serving over 11,500 institutions, plans live trials of digital asset and currency transactions by late 2025. The ledger focuses on interoperability with existing and emerging financial systems, ensuring seamless integration.
Strategic Vision: “Through this initial ledger concept, we are paving the way for financial institutions to take the payments experience to the next level with Swift’s proven and trusted platform,” said CEO Javier Pérez-Tasso at the Sibos conference in Frankfurt. The ledger, tested with Consensys’ Ethereum Layer 2 Linea, aims to maintain Swift’s compliance standards while enabling secure transactions. Read More.
